The Kosovo Police, specifically the Regional Directorate of South Mitrovica, has launched an awareness campaign aimed at pedestrians on the Mitrovica-Prishtina national highway. The initiative follows recent improvements and the opening of several road segments on this critical route, particularly in the areas of the villages Nadakovc, Pestovë, and Maxhunaj.
The campaign is centered around the slogan, “Pedestrians, life doesn’t return,” aiming to raise awareness about road safety and reduce the risk of accidents, especially involving pedestrians.
To support the campaign, the police have been distributing leaflets containing safety advice for pedestrians, urging them to be more cautious while crossing roads. The leaflets carry the same slogan and provide key guidelines on how to stay safe. Additionally, the police have been engaging with local residents and school directors in the area, calling for collective responsibility in ensuring a safe environment for both drivers and pedestrians.
“The main goal of this campaign is to protect lives and prevent accidents,” the police said in a statement. “We are encouraging residents, especially those with direct access to the Mitrovica-Prishtina national road, particularly in the Vushtrri region—from Nadakovc to Graçë—to exercise caution and be vigilant.”
The police have also highlighted that they will take strict enforcement actions against pedestrians who violate traffic rules by crossing the road in an unsafe manner, thereby endangering themselves and other road users. Those caught violating traffic laws will face penalties in accordance with the Road Traffic Rules Law.
As part of the preventive efforts, the police have deployed additional traffic units and personnel from the Vushtrri Police Station to patrol these newly opened road segments. The authorities are actively monitoring pedestrian behavior, especially in high-risk areas.
Citizens and drivers are encouraged to report any irregularities or unsafe pedestrian behavior—such as crossing the road in unauthorized areas or ignoring barriers—by calling the police at 192, using the mobile app “Lajmëro Policinë”, or emailing [email protected].
The Kosovo Police emphasized that everyone—whether drivers or pedestrians—has a crucial role to play in preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of all road users.
This campaign is part of ongoing efforts to raise public awareness and foster a responsible and safe approach to road use throughout Kosovo.
