The Kosovo Police has provided details on its operational plan and key security measures for the parliamentary elections taking place today, February 9, 2025.
According to the police statement, a sufficient number of officers, primarily from the public order unit, have been deployed to ensure security and the smooth running of the electoral process. Additional specialized officers from various units within the Kosovo Police may also be engaged as needed.
Four Phases of the Operational Plan
The police have structured their election security plan into four key phases:
- Pre-election phase: Preparation and assessment.
- Campaign security phase: Ensuring order during the election campaign.
- Election Day security phase (D-Day): Maintaining public order and securing polling stations.
- Post-election phase: Secure transportation of sensitive electoral materials under police escort until the process is completed.
Election Day Deployment
Police officers have been working 12-hour shifts since 03:00 AM, focusing on:
- Opening command centers and monitoring election security.
- Escorting sensitive electoral materials from municipal warehouses to polling stations.
- Ensuring the security of polling stations, municipal election commissions, counting centers, and all electoral facilities.
Commitment to Law and Order
The Kosovo Police emphasized that their mission is to create a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens during and after the elections. Officers are tasked with:
- Investigating and prosecuting any criminal offenses related to voting rights.
- Taking legal action against individuals involved in electoral fraud, voter intimidation, or illegal activities.
- Coordinating closely with the State Prosecutor’s Office to address election-related offenses.
The police also confirmed that designated investigators and regional police coordinators are working in direct collaboration with the Central Election Commission (CEC) and prosecutors to ensure a free and democratic election process.
