The Kosovo Police successfully prevented a smuggling attempt near the Hani i Elezit border area, following an operation conducted by patrol units of the Regional Border Directorate – Hani i Elezit.
According to official reports, the incident occurred around 19:00 on Friday evening, when police officers spotted a van without license plates entering Kosovo illegally from North Macedonia using an unauthorized route.
Despite police attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, eventually losing control and driving into a ditch. Two suspects inside the van fled the scene, escaping back toward North Macedonia.
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a large quantity of suspected smuggled goods, including men’s and women’s footwear of various brands, work tools, safes, and assorted clothing items.
By order of the competent prosecutor, both the vehicle and the goods were confiscated and transferred to the Border Surveillance Police Station – Hani i Elezit. The seized materials will be handed over to Kosovo Customs for further legal procedures.
The Kosovo Police reaffirmed its commitment to preventing and combating illegal activities, ensuring public safety and border integrity in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
