The Kosovo Police has released a statement highlighting that Kosovo ranks among the safest countries in the Western Balkans, with the lowest crime rate and the fewest victims in fatal accidents.
This assessment comes from the 2025 Global Organized Crime Index, published on November 10, the International Day for the Prevention of Transnational Organized Crime. The report indicates that Kosovo has the lowest regional average 4.85 points on a scale of 1 to 10, measuring 15 criminal markets, 5 types of criminal actors, and 12 indicators of state resilience.
The index analyzes the prevalence of organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrime, and the ability of states to combat these phenomena.
According to the Kosovo Police, these results were achieved through strategic planning, inter-institutional cooperation, and the dedication of police officers in tackling various forms of crime.
Kosovo also leads the region in road safety. According to a report by Transport Community, published on November 12, 2025, using 2024 data, the country has the lowest number of fatalities per one million inhabitants in road accidents, surpassing all other Western Balkan states.
The Kosovo Police emphasized that through awareness campaigns, operational plans, and traffic controls, significant improvements in road safety and public order have been achieved. The institution remains committed to continuing its work toward an even safer environment for citizens.
