The situation in the four northern municipalities continues to be fragile. Security expert, Nuredin Ibishi, believes that Serbian criminal groups are still being trained in the bases of Serbia’s Special Unit. Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, says they are ready to respond to any possible attack.
The security situation remains fragile as Serbian criminal groups are being trained at the bases of Serbia’s Special Units along the border with Kosovo.
Security expert, Nuredin Ibishi, says that the focus of these training instructors is on threatening Pristina.
“There is a continuous concentration of armed forces and paramilitary groups, including criminals and instructors who continue to hold trainings in the premises of the armed forces at special unit bases and also near the border,” says Ibishi.
Austria has announced the deployment of a contingent of 190 soldiers to Kosovo to enhance security along the border with Serbia.
Ibishi views the increase of NATO troops in the four northern municipalities as a prevention of a conflict between Kosovo and Serbia.
“The addition of the 50th Austrian contingent with 190 personnel demonstrates Austria’s commitment and continuity to defend security under mandate 1244, for Kosovo but also shows interest in ensuring that the situation in the region is not threatened by various elements, especially pro-Serb and pro-Russian elements that are still present,” he further states.
As a first responder, the Kosovo Police are ready for any confrontation with threats posed by official Belgrade.
The Deputy Director of Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, told television that the release of Milan Radojciqi and his group poses a threat to the country, while information is being gathered from various channels about the security situation.
“Considering that Milan Radoiçiq, along with others who were in Banjska, have left that place, it naturally poses a risk and we must be careful during our police activities. We receive various information from different channels about different criminal activities, but for us, it’s important to be prepared,” says Elshani.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has been directly threatening Kosovo for several months, especially after the recent decision of the CBK regarding the dinar.
The European Union and the United States of America have asked both parties to refrain from rhetoric that could incite tensions.
