The Office of Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has responded to the controversy surrounding a photo she shared on International Women’s Day with female employees of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI).
According to the Presidency, the photo was taken and approved by AKI before its publication to ensure that it did not compromise the officers’ identities.
“The publication of the President’s photo with women in intelligence aimed to recognize their work and dedication to national security. Their identities are not exposed, and no security standards were violated. Moreover, this photo was taken and sent by AKI, and its release followed their assessment that it did not pose any risk,” stated Bekim Kupina from Osmani’s office.
Kupina emphasized that similar practices have occurred in Kosovo and other countries before. He also criticized the negative reaction, arguing that instead of appreciating the role of women in intelligence, the discussion had turned into an unfair campaign against them.
“The Presidency remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism. It is unfortunate that, on International Women’s Day, instead of recognizing the contributions of women in such a challenging field, they are subjected to unfair criticism. Women serving in national security deserve respect and support, not prejudice,” Kupina added.
