The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has not ruled out the possibility that the country could once again become the target of a new attack. She confirmed that efforts are underway with international partners to prevent potential attacks, not just in the north.
“We have our institutions that are doing very professional work, and at the same time, they are cooperating with partner states to ensure that in our analysis to prevent new attacks, we consider all possible circumstances. In this regard, it is essential that beyond protecting critical infrastructure in every corner of Kosovo, we focus on every possible scenario,” declared President Osmani.
Regarding evidence of Serbia’s involvement in recent attacks in Kosovo, she briefed her counterparts in Brussels.
During the day, she met with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
President Osmani believes that the lack of accountability for Serbia’s actions by the international community has encouraged the Serbian government to continue its attacks.
“The fact that there has been no accountability for Serbia, neither for September 2023 nor for the attack on NATO soldiers in May 2023, nor for the kidnapping of Kosovo police officers in June 2023, nor for the barricade after barricade they have built illegally in the north of Kosovo and the crimes they have committed not only against Kosovo’s institutions and our constitutional order but also against the Serbs living in the north, this has continuously encouraged criminal groups and Serbia itself to think about how to attack Kosovo and regional stability,” said Osmani.
The day before, the president also discussed this topic with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, James O’Brien.
She is expected to return to the European capital when the EU-Western Balkans leaders’ summit takes place on December 18th. /RTK
