The acting Government of Kosovo has approved a proposal by the Ministry of Finance, Labour, and Transfers to increase the national minimum wage from €364 to €500 beginning in 2026, marking one of the most significant wage adjustments in recent years.
Acting Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati announced that the increase will take place in two phases throughout 2026 to ensure the change is manageable for employers.
“After thorough analysis and consultations, our proposal is that the minimum wage be set at €500 per month, equivalent to €3 per hour,” Murati stated during Friday’s government meeting.
“This increase will happen in two stages — starting from January 1, 2026, the minimum wage will rise to €425 per month, or €2.5 per hour, and from July 1, 2026, it will reach €500 per month,” he added.
According to Murati, this phased approach aims to support both workers and employers, maintaining economic stability while improving living standards for low-income citizens.
The decision follows a series of fiscal measures introduced by the government this week, including the 13th salary for public sector employees, higher pensions, and increased child benefits, reflecting a broader social policy focused on economic growth and welfare improvement.
