Kosovo Records High Electricity Imports and Exports in January

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics reported that January 2026 saw significant changes in Kosovo’s electricity sector, including higher hydropower production and increased electricity consumption compared to January 2025.

According to the agency, gross electricity production from hydropower plants reached 29.901 GWh, marking a 67.09% increase compared to the same period last year.

At the same time:

  • Total gross electricity available reached 894.93 GWh, an increase of 1.10%.
  • Electricity consumption climbed to 695.17 GWh, representing a 4.63% increase.

The share of alternative electricity sources in total consumption stood at 10.87%.

Kosovo also recorded significant electricity trade:

  • Imports: 508.45 GWh
  • Exports: 299.19 GWh, including transmission quantities.

Meanwhile, coal production declined by 20.55%, totaling approximately 617,956 thousand tons.

Sectoral consumption data showed the largest increases in:

  • Industry: +22.96%
  • Public lighting: +14.07%

However, some categories, including 220–110 kV consumers and mining, registered declines in electricity usage.
