Kosovo’s Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, announced that the Ministry has submitted its comments on the proposed electricity tariffs to the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE).
In a video posted on her Facebook page, Rizvanolli explained that the Ministry’s proposal is to avoid any price increase for consumers who use up to 800 kWh per month. For those exceeding that amount, she suggested that the increase should be as minimal as possible, with consumers divided into multiple categories or blocks to better reflect usage.
“In this way, we avoid treating equally someone who consumes 1,000 kWh and someone who consumes 3,000 kWh per month. This protects families as much as possible without endangering supply security, especially safeguarding those who need it the most,” Rizvanolli stated.
Meanwhile, starting next month, electricity prices in Kosovo could increase by 15 percent.
Currently, consumers who use up to 800 kWh per month pay 7.79 euro cents per kilowatt-hour during daytime. With a 15 percent increase, the new rate would be 8.96 cents.
ZRRE reviews and sets electricity tariffs annually, with prices effective until March 31 of the following year.
According to the regulator, this year’s increase is necessary due to reduced energy production, higher consumption, and heavy reliance on expensive imports.
