The Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to Serbia’s stance following Kenya’s decision to recognize the independence of Kosovo. The ministry emphasized that Serbia is not interested in normalizing relations with Kosovo, continuing its campaign of lies and propaganda against the country, disregarding its commitments to the EU and violating the Brussels Agreement.
In its statement, Serbia referenced the UN Charter, the Non-Aligned Movement, and its relations with Kenya to portray itself as a victim. However, the statement underscored that the world is well aware of Serbia’s actions. Kosovo highlighted that Serbia is the same country that, under the leadership of the same individuals, started four wars in the Balkans during the 1990s, committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo.
It is the same Serbia that continues to glorify convicted war criminals who ordered the mass killing of civilians, women, and children. Today, Serbia still denies and opposes justice, as seen in its shameful rejection of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the genocide committed in Srebrenica.
Serbia refuses to open its state archives, obstructing the world from fully recognizing the systematic atrocities carried out by its police, army, and paramilitary forces in Kosovo, including brutal massacres in Reçak, Izbicë, Krushë e Madhe, Poklek, Podujevë, and Mejë, which are commemorated every year.
Many of Serbia’s political and military leaders have been tried and convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for their roles in the systematic killings and mass expulsions of Kosovo Albanians. This Serbia holds no moral authority to lecture any country on international law, let alone Kenya, which has rightfully and legally recognized Kosovo’s independence.
