Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has announced the signing of a contract with the Turkish state-owned producer “Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi” (MKE) to establish an ammunition factory in Kosovo.

In addition to producing two types of ammunition, the factory will also focus on the design of combat drones.

“We have just signed a contract with the Turkish state-owned producer ‘Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi’ (MKE), through which we are laying the foundations for our defense industry. MKE will take responsibility for launching the ammunition factory, which will produce various calibers of ammunition in accordance with NATO standards. The contract includes not only the production machinery but also staff training, maintenance for a certain period, and the provision of systems for quality testing and calibration. Once production starts, the factory will operate as a public enterprise and will be 100% locally owned,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.
