Albin Kurti: “A Long-Awaited Need for Shtime”

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating that the construction of the new facility addresses a longstanding need to relocate patients from the aging current building.

“The machinery and workers are ready. Today we laid the foundation stone for a new building. This is an important day for the patients of the Special Institute. It’s great news for the Municipality of Shtime,” Kurti said.

Local Leaders Welcome the Investment

Qemajl Aliu, Mayor of Shtime, described the day as a historic moment for the local community.

“Construction is beginning swiftly and within two years the project will be completed. Patients will finally have dignified living conditions,” he noted.

Improved Healthcare Standards Nationwide

Health Minister Arben Vitia also stressed the nationwide impact of the project, noting that the new institute will serve patients with mental and developmental disabilities from across Kosovo.

“We’re witnessing a meaningful moment. In two years, these patients will have access to a far better-quality facility. It’s a significant step forward for our healthcare system,” Vitia said.

A Long-Term Vision for Dignified Care

The new institute is designed to provide modern, humane, and dignified conditions for vulnerable citizens and marks a broader commitment by the Kosovo government to improve social and healthcare infrastructure.
