Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, announced on Monday, in honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day, that Kosovo has chosen not to remain a passive observer, joining countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to a government statement, Kurti highlighted that Kosovo has long supported Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty, helping the country build a secure future rather than remain exposed to aggression.
“Kosovo has consistently supported Ukraine’s fight to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, ensuring it can build a strong future rather than remain perpetually vulnerable to aggression,” Kurti said.
He added that Kosovo has aligned with the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom in imposing sanctions, while also providing refuge to journalists and others seeking a safe base from which to continue their work. Kosovo has additionally supported the Ukrainian military through military aid packages and training under the ‘Inteflex’ operation.
Speaking to a large audience on Ukraine’s Independence Day, Kurti extended his greetings to all Ukrainians and reaffirmed that Kosovo stands in solidarity with Ukraine, committed to supporting its independence, sovereignty, and the pursuit of a safe, democratic, and peaceful future across its territory.
