Over 200 tanker trucks transporting oil and gasoline from Kosovo are currently blocking the port of Durrës in Albania. The drivers are protesting what they describe as excessive waiting times and “mistreatment” at border crossing points.
Liman Daka, a representative for petroleum derivatives transport businesses, expressed the drivers’ concerns to Telegrafi, highlighting numerous and repeated checks they consider unnecessary and unreasonable.
“Despite being accompanied by an anti-contraband unit along the way, we are subjected to numerous checks at the border – we go through scanners, weighbridges, analyses – and we are even charged 11 euros for the weighbridge without any clear reason,” the protesters stated.
The protesting drivers have declared they will not move from their current location until concrete measures are taken to ease the procedures. They warned that with over 120 fuel-laden tankers and recent high temperatures, there is an increased risk of a fire incident.
The protest continues at the port of Durrës, and company representatives are urging competent authorities to intervene urgently to resolve the situation.
