Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that the government will approve the budget allocation law for the 2026 fiscal year today, which includes the introduction of a 13th salary for all public sector employees.
Speaking at the government meeting, Kurti highlighted that the 2026 budget totals €4 billion, with approximately €1 billion allocated for capital investments. He emphasized that public sector employees who have worked at least 12 months will be eligible for the additional 13th salary at the end of the year.
The budget also provides for pension increases, benefits for new mothers, and child allowances. Additionally, the base salary will increase by 0.5% per year of work experience, compared to the previous 0.25% for the first 15 years of employment, translating into higher wages for public employees depending on their years of service.
Kurti described the 2026 budget as offering enhanced social support for youth and women in the workforce, reflecting a broader commitment to economic development and welfare improvement.
