The German envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, spoke at a press conference about the decision of the Kosovo Government to allow citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to enter Kosovo with just ID cards starting January 1, 2025.
In an online discussion with journalists following the summit, Sarrazin stated that Germany had made efforts to convince representatives of the Republika Srpska entity to withdraw their national veto.
“We made it clear that this is essential for us, and the European Commission and other European partners have also worked to finalize this. But we also made it clear that we won’t give treats for this, we won’t pay, we won’t change our stance regarding sanctions on Dodik, because this is about the benefits of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.”
“I believe every citizen in Kosovo understands that we won’t give Dodik treats to make this happen. It’s positive and a good move by the Kosovo Government to allow Bosnian citizens to move freely in Kosovo. This is the spirit promoted by the Berlin Process, and I hope that the representatives of Republika Srpska will agree with the goals promoted by the Berlin Process,” he said.
Sarrazin emphasized that the achievements of the summit held a day earlier are significant, including a new action plan for the regional common market.
