The United States has suspended its strategic dialogue with Kosovo indefinitely, a move that former Albanian Ambassador to NATO Visho Ajazi Lika described as serious but not unexpected.

A Wake-Up Call for Kosovo’s Leaders

Ajazi Lika warned that the decision is a bad sign for Kosovo’s foreign policy and called on the political class to act immediately.

“It is bad news, though not surprising. I believe it is imperative for Kosovo’s leaders to take measures so that this suspension is lifted as soon as possible. I expected concrete proposals from the Presidency, but none were offered,” Ajazi Lika told Euronews Albania.

He stressed that Kosovo must rebuild trust with the US, its strongest ally, especially given America’s key role in establishing the Kosovo Security Forces.

Why the US Took This Step

According to the US Embassy in Pristina, the decision followed government actions that increased tensions and instability, limiting Washington’s ability to cooperate effectively with Kosovo on shared priorities.

Ajazi Lika added that Kosovo must consider the goodwill of the US administration under President Trump and act strategically to restore confidence.
