Citizens of Kosovo with the right to vote are heading to the polls today to elect their local representatives. In these elections, a total of 2,025,105 citizens are eligible to vote for mayors of 38 municipalities and members of municipal assemblies.
The voting process began at 7:00 a.m. and will continue until 7:00 p.m., lasting a total of 12 hours.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the elections include participation from 93 certified political entities, comprising:
- 32 political parties
- 2 coalitions
- 32 citizens’ initiatives
- 27 independent candidates
The total number of certified candidates is 5,624, including:
- 205 candidates for mayor (185 men and 20 women)
- 5,419 candidates for municipal assemblies (3,395 men and 2,024 women)
Voting is taking place across 948 polling centers with a total of 2,625 polling stations, of which:
- 910 centers with 2,571 regular polling stations, and
- 38 centers — one per municipality — with 54 conditional polling stations.
These local elections are crucial for determining local governance over the next four years and represent an important test of democracy and civic participation throughout Kosovo.
