Over half a million euros is the damage caused in the Municipality of Dragash after the floods that occurred weeks ago. From this municipality they are waiting for compensation from the Government.
While the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo is asking for an emergency fund to be formed, to avoid such delays.
Overturned cars, waterlogged houses, and destroyed roads were the sights of the village of Kuk in Dragash, a day after the floods.
And not only here, from this natural disaster, many roads, bridges and protective walls were damaged on June 26 in the villages of this city, which is located in the south of Kosovo.
The value of these damages is close to half a million euros.
The Mayor of the Municipality, in a statement for TV 1, said that they are waiting for the government to release this money as soon as possible.
Like Dragashi, the municipality of Skenderaj is also awaiting compensation for the floods that were affected in January 2023.
Even though more than 17 months have passed, according to the information officer in this municipality, the Government did not allocate money for the damages that were done to the public infrastructure.
“Regarding the floods, the Government of Kosovo has compensated a large part of the families that have been damaged, while regarding the damage to public infrastructure, damage to businesses and other damage that has been on bridges, on the sidewalk, there is still no compensation from The Government of Kosovo, which is close to 6 million euros in public infrastructure”, said the information officer in the Municipality of Skenderaj, Amir Lushtaku.
And so that these months and years of damage compensation delays can be avoided, the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo has requested that an emergency fund be formed.
“This procedure is very bureaucratic, and the state’s assistance to the citizens can be seen after a few months, but the citizen asks for an emergency because if there is material damage to a house or apartment, they ask for help immediately to repair the damage and not through these procedures”. said the director of the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo, Sazan Ibrahimi for Tëvë1.
