The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MFAD) of the Republic of Kosovo has expressed deep concern over the arrest of Kosovo citizen Behar Preniqi at the Batrovci border crossing, located between Croatia and Serbia.
In an official statement, the Ministry described the arrest as “arbitrary and unprovoked,” labeling it another example of “the Serbian authorities’ destructive practices.”
According to the Ministry, Kosovo’s Liaison Office in Serbia has immediately engaged diplomatic channels to obtain complete information regarding the case and has formally requested clarification from Serbian authorities on the reasons behind Mr. Preniqi’s detention.
The incident has also been reported to the EU Delegation in Serbia and the diplomatic missions of the Quint countries. The Ministry emphasized that, should a pre-trial detention order be issued against Mr. Preniqi, it will request an official visit to his place of detention.
In conclusion, the Ministry issued a public advisory to all Kosovo citizens, urging them to avoid traveling through Serbian territory for their own safety. It also called upon the international community to respond to what it described as actions by Serbian authorities that are in violation of international law and fundamental human rights.
