The Mufti of Kosovo, Naim Tërnava, has extended his felicitations to all Muslim believers on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bajram), calling for greater kindness and goodwill among them.
In his traditional greeting on the eve of the “Greater Eid” (Kurban Bajram), Tërnava emphasized that this holiday commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, who “was ready to sacrifice his dearest for the sake of Almighty God.” He added that this teaches true faith knows no bounds or fear of trials, finding its profound meaning in submission to God’s divine will.
“On this day, the hearts of believers are filled with gratitude and devotion, while their hands extend in help and generosity, because this holiday is an act that embodies the spirit of closeness to God and responsibility towards society,” Mufti Tërnava stated.
He further noted that while Eid al-Adha is a religious holiday, it also carries deep social and patriotic messages. “The Eid celebration is not limited only to worship; it contributes to strengthening the values that build society and reinforce the homeland,” he expressed.
Eid al-Adha is characterized by the sacrifice of animals (Qurbani) and the performance of the Hajj pilgrimage. Tërnava mentioned the millions of pilgrims currently in Mecca, including those from Kosovo, who are undertaking the Hajj – “the journey of a lifetime” – offering prayers for forgiveness, health, well-being for their families, their people, and security for their homeland.
This year’s Hajj began on June 4, with Muslim pilgrims performing religious rites in Mecca until June 8. Over 1.5 million pilgrims are participating in Islam’s most significant ritual under scorching temperatures.
