Naim Qelaj, the Ombudsperson of the Republic of Kosovo, has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM) during the AOM General Assembly held on October 16, 2025, in Malta.

Qelaj’s election to this leadership body reflects recognition of the work, professionalism, and contribution of the Kosovo Ombudsperson’s Institution in promoting good governance, human rights protection, and strengthening democratic institutions in the region.

About the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM)

The AOM is an international network uniting ombudsman institutions and national human rights mechanisms across Mediterranean countries. Its mission is to promote inter-institutional cooperation, exchange best practices, and uphold the values of the rule of law and public integrity.

Qelaj’s Role and Responsibilities

In his new role on the Executive Board, Naim Qelaj will:

  • Contribute to the development of AOM strategies and policies
  • Represent the voice and experience of Kosovo’s Ombudsperson Institution at regional and international levels
  • Oversee AOM activities, approve annual reports, and prepare the General Assembly and Congress
  • Assist in drafting policies and work plans for member institutions, fostering regional cooperation and human rights protection

This election underscores the trust and respect enjoyed by Kosovo’s Ombudsperson Institution on the international stage and reinforces its commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights.
