Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, today welcomed a delegation of Bosnian and Albanian citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina who traveled visa-free, with just their ID cards, to Kosovo for the first time. This milestone was made possible as a result of the Berlin Summit agreement, which the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has implemented starting January 1, 2025.
This historic trip was made by 30 citizens, the majority of whom expressed deep emotion as they visited Kosovo for the first time. For many, it was a special day, as some were returning to their ancestral land, thanks to the opportunity created by the Government of Kosovo for Bosnian and Herzegovinian nationals. Regardless of age, whether young or elderly, the emotions were mixed. One individual, who turned 73 today, described it as a “special birthday.”
This new opportunity for free movement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo marks the beginning of a pro-European civic ambition for open travel. It also opens the door for future exchanges in fields such as science, culture, sports, and family ties. The government’s decision today signals a step forward toward greater regional cooperation and connectivity. /rtk
