The Central Election Commission (KQZ) of Kosovo is set to take decisive steps today that could significantly impact party financing and electoral logistics. In a meeting scheduled for 13:30, the KQZ will address two critical issues—preparations for future elections and the suspension of public funds for sanctioned parties.
According to sources cited by IndeksOnline, the commission will first discuss the release of ballot boxes containing electoral materials, a necessary step in preparing for upcoming electoral rounds and ensuring proper logistical planning.
More notably, the KQZ is expected to approve the suspension of funding from the state’s Political Party Support Fund for all parties that were fined by the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (PZAP) for violations during the recent campaign.
The Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Control of Political Parties has disclosed the following fine amounts, which will now be deducted from state funds and redirected to PZAP’s account:
- Lëvizja Vetëvendosje: €212,500
- Partia Demokratike e Kosovës (PDK): €144,500
- Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës (LDK): €136,600
- AAK-Nisma Coalition: €72,300
- Sloboda, Pravda i Opstanak: €3,500
The total fines surpass half a million euros, underscoring what may become a landmark decision in reinforcing financial transparency and political accountability in Kosovo’s electoral system.
This move could set a precedent for how institutional mechanisms enforce campaign rules and penalize misconduct, signaling a tougher stance by electoral authorities on improper political behavior.
