Next Sunday, citizens of Kosovo will head to the polls to elect mayors and municipal assembly members in the upcoming local elections.

In preparation for the October 12 vote, the Central Election Commission (KQZ) has begun training members of the Polling Station Councils (PSCs), who will be responsible for managing the electoral process on election day.

The training program, taking place across all 38 municipalities, aims to prepare over 15,000 members with the necessary knowledge of their duties and responsibilities. Key areas of focus include voting and counting procedures, special voting for persons with specific needs, and conditional voting procedures, according to the KQZ.

At its most recent meeting, the Commission decided on the appointment of 14,305 members for 2,571 regular polling stations and 54 conditional polling stations, while an additional 1,200 members will serve as reserves.

This week, the KQZ also accredited 521 observers from 26 organizations, including international bodies, NGOs, and diplomatic representatives, to monitor the electoral process.

Overall, the elections will be held in 948 Voting Centers, encompassing a total of 2,625 polling stations:

  • 910 centers with 2,571 stations for regular voting
  • 38 centers with 54 stations for conditional voting (one per municipality).
