The Central Election Commission (KQZ) continues the process of certifying political entities and their candidates for the October 12, 2025 local elections.

KQZ spokesperson Valmir Elezi told KALLXO.com that 46 political entities are still under review, including 33 political parties, two coalitions, one citizens’ initiative, and eight independent candidates.

“After receiving these applications, the necessary legal steps were taken in cooperation with various state institutions to verify the eligibility of candidates. Once this legal requirement is met, the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Oversight of Political Entities will prepare recommendations and present them to the KQZ members, who will then decide,” Elezi explained.

By the August 13, 2025 application deadline, a total of 104 entities applied for certification. So far, 58 political entities have been certified, including 31 citizens’ initiatives and 27 independent candidates.

According to Elezi, the total number of candidates certified to date is 510, of whom 34 are running for mayor and 476 for municipal assemblies.

Meanwhile, two citizens’ initiatives were rejected due to irregularities noted during public sessions:

  • “Lidhja për Prishtinën” was rejected for having a name too similar to a slogan of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
  • “Lëvizja për Bashkimin e Shqipëtarëve” was denied certification due to a spelling error in the word “Shqipëtarëve,” which should have been correctly written as “Shqiptarëve.”
