Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, a survivor of wartime sexual violence and former member of the Kosovo Assembly, has voiced her full support for today’s protest in Prishtina, which has been organized in opposition to what is seen as the unjust treatment of former KLA leaders by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
In a powerful public statement, Krasniqi-Goodman emphasized that her participation is not in defense of individuals, but in defense of collective dignity, equal justice, and the truth of Kosovo’s liberation struggle.
Her Full Statement:
“The reason I will be at the protest on August 7 is simple: In a world where Serbian war criminals still walk free, it is unacceptable that our former soldiers face injustice.”
“I am not standing up to defend individuals. I am standing up to defend our collective dignity, our right to equal justice. I stand as a citizen of this country who cannot remain silent while our history is being stained by double standards.”
“There can be no peace without justice, and no justice without the truth of our liberation war.”
“The KLA was not a crime – it was the shield of this people.”
“That is why, on August 7, I’ll be there. For history, for dignity, for Kosovo!”
The protest, organized under the slogan “Against Injustice”, is being held in solidarity with former KLA leaders currently on trial in The Hague. It has received widespread support from political actors, civil society organizations, and the general public.
