On the 26th anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation Day, Memli Krasniqi, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), paid tribute in Prekaz, declaring that “freedom has its roots here.” Krasniqi used the occasion to call for the release of former KLA leaders currently imprisoned in The Hague.
Krasniqi emphasized that on this day, and always, Kosovo remembers its international friends, led by the United States of America and NATO, who stood by the country during its most decisive moments.
Honoring Sacrifices and Demanding Justice
Addressing the continued detention of former KLA figures, Krasniqi expressed a deep hope that this would be the final anniversary celebrated without them. “This anniversary, with the deep hope that it will be the last one we mark without them, we heartily wish for our liberators who are unjustly held in The Hague: President Hashim Thaçi, Speaker Kadri Veseli, Speaker Jakup Krasniqi, MP Rexhep Selimi, and their comrades-in-arms,” Krasniqi stated.
He further affirmed the righteousness of their cause: “Their war was just and pure, because it was the war and effort of an entire people, who for many generations sacrificed for freedom.“
