Memli Krasniqi, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has confirmed that his party will not vote for Nenad Rašić’s election as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly representing the Serbian community. This development has contributed to the ongoing stalemate in forming the Assembly.
Krasniqi also stated that he declined a meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti today to discuss Rašić’s candidacy, emphasizing that the PDK refuses to participate in political games, even though Rašić would be a highly competent Deputy Speaker under different circumstances.
“We cannot become part of political games, even though Rašić would be an excellent Deputy Speaker under other circumstances. Kurti did not show this enthusiasm for electing Albulena Haxhiu, and even less so for Dimal Basha. He knows this is not appropriate,” Krasniqi said ahead of the Assembly session.
Krasniqi confirmed that he rejected Kurti’s request for a meeting regarding Rašić’s nomination:
“I declined Mr. Kurti’s request to meet and discuss Nenad Rašić’s election,” he said.
He also criticized Kurti and Vetëvendosje’s approach as a continuation of political obstruction, adding:
“I don’t understand why they insist on creating yet another issue in the Constitutional Court,” Krasniqi remarked.
The PDK’s firm stance signals continued tension and uncertainty in Kosovo’s parliamentary processes, highlighting the challenges in reaching consensus on leadership positions.
