Following the failure of Kosovo’s Constitutive Assembly session to elect a new speaker, PDK leader Memli Krasniqi called for immediate political action and urged President Vjosa Osmani to refer the crisis to the Constitutional Court.
Speaking to reporters, Krasniqi emphasized that deputies should convene daily to resolve the political deadlock, rather than waiting the full 48 hours as stipulated by parliamentary regulations.
“We can and should gather every day. That would be both a duty to the voters and a form of pressure to break this impasse,” Krasniqi stated.
He criticized LVV leader Albin Kurti, accusing him of lacking the will to resolve the situation:
“Mr. Kurti has no interest in unblocking this situation.”
Krasniqi also confirmed that in his meeting with President Osmani, he requested that she submit a constitutional question to the Court in order to clarify the legal path forward.
“I don’t know whether she will do it, but she has expressed willingness,” he noted.
The failure to elect the Assembly Speaker on Monday left Kosovo in what Krasniqi described as an ‘essential state of emergency’, with no functioning government for over six months. The postponed session is now scheduled to resume Wednesday, May 21 at 11:00 AM.
