Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Friday that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump is necessary but must be preceded by thorough preparations and yield concrete results.
His comments came in response to earlier remarks by Trump, who had said he would meet with Putin “as soon as possible.”
“Such a meeting is naturally necessary. It is needed both from the standpoint of bilateral Russia-U.S. relations and from the perspective of initiating high-level dialogue on international and regional issues, including, of course, the crisis in Ukraine,” Peskov said.
He added that proper groundwork must be laid in advance for such a meeting and emphasized that the Russian team remains in close and constant contact with President Putin regarding recent developments.
“A meeting like this is essential, but it requires prior preparation and should deliver outcomes once it takes place,” Peskov added.
This development comes at a time when diplomatic talks are underway in Istanbul, with expectations for intensified international efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
