The Kremlin announced today that “no agreement has been reached” regarding a second Russia-Ukraine peace meeting, rumored to be held in the Vatican, as reported by the U.S. media.
“There is no agreement yet, no concrete arrangement for future meetings,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian President.
He added that “work continues on the implementation of previously reached agreements.”
Ukrainian presidential spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov declined to comment on speculations about potential new talks.
According to the Wall Street Journal, former U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly told European leaders on May 19 that the next peace talks between Russia and Ukraine could take place in the Vatican.
Last week, Pope Leo XIV offered to mediate between warring parties across the globe.
Earlier this week, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed that the head of the Roman Catholic Church is ready to host the peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican.
In a related statement, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said yesterday that a technical meeting involving the warring sides, Americans, and Europeans might be held next week.
