The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin has accepted several proposals from the United States aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, while rejecting others.

The Kremlin emphasized that Russia remains willing to meet with U.S. negotiators whenever necessary to reach an agreement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that it would not be accurate to say Putin outright rejected all U.S. proposals. “Yesterday marked the first direct exchange of views,” Peskov said. “Some proposals were accepted, some were deemed unacceptable – this is a normal part of working toward a compromise.”

Peskov added that Russia appreciated former President Donald Trump’s efforts but would not provide continuous commentary on U.S.-Russia discussions, as publicity is unlikely to be constructive.

“The work is currently being conducted at the expert level,” Peskov said. “It is at this level that certain outcomes must be achieved, which will then form the basis for contacts at the highest level.”

On Tuesday, Putin criticized European powers, claiming they were attempting to disrupt peace talks by suggesting ideas that Russia found “absolutely unacceptable.”
