Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated today that the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky exists—but only if certain agreements are reached, Reuters reports.

Peskov emphasized that Russia is open to such a meeting, but only if “specific outcomes in some agreements” are achieved. However, he did not clarify which agreements would be necessary to make such a meeting possible.

“At the same time, when documents are signed—documents that delegations must agree on—the most important and fundamental issue for us remains: who exactly will sign these documents on behalf of the Ukrainian side,” Peskov added.

The Kremlin spokesman did not provide further details about this statement.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelensky had challenged Putin to a face-to-face meeting in Turkey. However, Putin chose instead to send a delegation of senior officials to negotiate with Ukrainian representatives in Istanbul on Friday.
