The Kremlin has officially responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement in which he claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has gone completely mad” and warned that any full-scale invasion of Ukraine would lead to Russia’s collapse.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for President Putin, attributed Trump’s comments to “emotional overload,” a reaction he said is typical of all parties currently involved in the negotiation process. Peskov noted:
“This is a very important moment, which is, of course, connected to emotional overload on all sides, and with emotional reactions. We are carefully monitoring the full spectrum of reactions.“
His comments follow reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense that Russian forces launched a massive strike against Ukraine’s military-industrial complex on Sunday evening.
Trump criticized Putin’s actions, stating:
“Putin is unnecessarily killing a lot of people—not just soldiers. Missiles and drones are being fired into cities in Ukraine for no reason.“
In response, Peskov emphasized that President Putin is making “the decisions necessary to ensure the security of our country.“
