Former Deputy President of the Constitutional Court Kadri Kryeziu believes that the draft law approved by the Serbian government, which proposes the criminal prosecution of institutional officials in Kosovo for allegedly violating the rights and freedoms of the Serbian community, will pose serious challenges for these officials.
Kryeziu told RTV21 that this draft law would provide grounds for international forums to intervene, especially since Kosovo has also issued warrants for several individuals it labels as terrorists who were involved in the recent events in Banjskë.
He raised concerns that if this law comes into effect, a list will be created that includes officials based on their authority, making them vulnerable to arrest whenever they travel outside Kosovo, except to Albania.
“This law indicates that the Serbian government is following the political trend of the Milošević era. It allows for action in international forums because we have also issued warrants for individuals we consider terrorists in relation to Banjskë. This creates a contradiction: we seek them while they seek others they claim are violating the rights and freedoms of Serbs in Kosovo, as Serbia views Kosovo as its province, which is also reflected in its constitution. They believe they have the right, but this law does not align with European laws or the democracy of a country. I think they will create a list of Kosovar officials who will be targeted, and these individuals will definitely face challenges when traveling outside Kosovo, except to Albania. There is a possibility they could also be arrested in Montenegro, North Macedonia, and other countries because these individuals will be entered into Interpol’s lists, which does not consider reasons but simply acts,” he stated.
