The Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has announced the purchase of helicopters for the Kosovo Security Force.
Maqedonci has said that they are discussing the work of the helicopters with the United States Embassy and the American Department of Defense.
However, he added that the purchase of helicopters is foreseen in the third phase of the transition, which begins in 2025.
“Within the KSF, the air unit is foreseen, which means, in addition to Bayraktar drones and other air systems, also helicopters. Also for the helicopters, we are in discussion with the United States Embassy and the Department of Defense in the United States of America. Even the helicopters are part of the third phase of the transition and it is really one of the necessary assets, at least for the part of supporting the support of civil authorities, namely medical evacuation but also search and rescue”, Maqedonci stated on RTV Dukagjini.
He said that drones no longer have the combat effect they had in the past, but they continue to be important.
“After the Ukrainian war, the format of the war and the needs for systems have changed. “Helicopters no longer have the combat effect they had in the past, but they continue to be important, especially for the aspect of transportation, rescue and evacuation,” said Maqedonci.
