KSF will soon have a military airport near the border with Serbia

The Kosovo Security Force will soon have a military airport near the border with Serbia. However, experts in the field have different opinions regarding the location of this airport, whether it will positively affect the preservation of the country’s sovereignty.

It is currently in the service of the EULEX mission.

But very soon, the space with the border line with Serbia will be used by the Kosovo Security Force as a military airport.

This is after a decision by the Government of Kosovo to grant the land that had served as an airport for the training of paratroopers and sports-military planes of the former Yugoslavia.

The criminology professor estimates that such a decision is important for the KSF and that its position is important due to its proximity to the border line with Serbia.

“This infrastructure that has been put at the service of the KSF is more than shot and of course other circumstances of both an objective and strategic character have been evaluated in advance, of course the position when the territory was given, the location is very important for both strategic and operative of the KSF in order to efficiently perform the duties and obligations arising from the Constitution with the mission of the KSF”, said professor of criminology, Fatmir Çollaku.

But the member of the Committee for Security and Defense does not think so.

PDK deputy, Hisen Berisha, says that the deployment near the border line with Serbia is not strategic from the side of the KSF.

“It is not good for objects of special importance to be located near the border, and the situation of their protection and preservation is much more difficult. I believe that you have information that in the first attacks of a state that claims an invasion in another state, buildings of special importance, including airports in particular, are included,” said Berisha.

The ex-soldier also shows the function that such an airport will have.

“It may be in the use of practice and limited helicopter flights in the future when we have the strength or if we will buy aircraft such as the Israeli-type aircraft that can replace multi-functional helicopters in every respect that we planned to buy since they are related to evacuation, fighting against fire but also real fighting on the battlefield”, said Berisha.

Tëvë1 has requested an answer from the Ministry of Defense as to when this airport is expected to come under its management, but during the week there was no answer.
