WASHINGTON, D.C. – American professor Charles Kupchan has spoken about the new US administration and its potential approach toward Kosovo and Serbia under Donald Trump’s leadership.
Kupchan advised Kosovo to act carefully, as Trump does not respond well to policies he perceives as obstacles to a peace agreement.
“Both Belgrade and Prishtina must be cautious about steps that Trump may see as unhelpful. He does not react well to policies that he believes hinder progress toward a peace deal,” Kupchan told Radio Free Europe (RFE).
He urged Kosovo’s leadership to adopt a pragmatic approach in dealing with the US.
“If you want good relations with the US, make a deal, engage in negotiations, and be ready for compromises. Trump is not ideological; he does not focus on the history of Balkan conflicts or multi-ethnicity. He just wants results. I believe the Kosovo government should approach him with this pragmatism because it will pay off,” Kupchan added.
