Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has formally received the final report of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) for the 2025 parliamentary elections from mission chief Nathalie Loiseau. The meeting marks a key moment in Kosovo’s post-election assessment and its commitment to democratic improvement.

Kurti expressed gratitude for the EU’s oversight during the February 9th election and emphasized the importance of the report’s recommendations in enhancing Kosovo’s democratic processes.

In his discussion with Loiseau, Kurti raised several critical concerns:

  • The lack of professional investigative journalism to verify campaign promises, especially by prime ministerial candidates, which he warned could erode public trust and harm democracy.
  • Opaque campaign financing, underlining the need for full transparency in the sources and contributions behind political campaigns.
  • The lengthy vote-counting process, calling for reforms to increase efficiency and credibility.

A particularly serious concern addressed in the report, and highlighted by Kurti, was the external interference in the electoral process. The EU mission documented over 60 disinformation articles disseminated by Russian-backed media based in Serbia, including RT Balkans and Sputnik Srbija. These outlets allegedly aimed to manipulate Kosovo’s Serbian community, posing a real threat to electoral integrity and democratic stability.

Both sides agreed that the conduct of Kosovo’s citizens during the elections demonstrated maturity and civic responsibility, with the process noted for being incident-free and peaceful.

Kurti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully implementing the EU’s recommendations, reinforcing Kosovo’s path toward strengthened democratic institutions and European integration.
