Prime Minister Albin Kurti today accused Serbia of continuing to deny the crimes committed against Albanians by its criminal forces even 25 years after the end of the war in Kosovo.
He stated that over 950 Albanians have been exhumed from five mass graves in Serbia and retrieved from rivers and lakes where official Belgrade tried to hide its truth.
“Serbia still lacks the acknowledgment of the truth and justice for the crimes committed during the war in Kosovo. As the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, we reaffirm our commitment to ceaselessly seek the illumination of the truth and justice for war crimes,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.
He reminded that on March 31, 1999, in the Kumnova family home in Gjakova, Serbian forces abducted and killed six men and boys: Albion Kumnova, Artan Efendija, Gëzim Deva, Lutfi Bunjaku, Bekim Bunjaku, and Shkëlzen Binishi.
“After abducting them, they killed and disappeared them. Serbia also took their bodies, in an attempt to hide the traces of the crime. In 2011, their bodies were found in Batajnica on the outskirts of Belgrade. Albion was not among them. Albion was 21 years old. Today marks 25 years since his disappearance. A quarter-century of waiting and striving for the truth about those forcibly disappeared by Serbia.
Today, on this anniversary, by remembering the only son of the Kumnova family, we remember the loved ones of many families of our people who were abducted and disappeared by force by Milosevic’s genocidal regime. We honor the sacrifice for our free state. The resilience of Mother Nesrete and Uncle Muharrem Kumnova keeps us all strong,” Kurti concluded.
