On the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, paid tribute to the memory of the 8,372 Bosniak men and boys systematically executed by Serbian forces in July 1995.

“Srebrenica was genocide. A crime committed in the heart of Europe, meticulously planned to annihilate an entire population. 8,372 lives extinguished in just a few days, while the world remained silent. This is both a remembrance and a warning—never again must we allow such a tragedy,” said Gërvalla.

Highlighting Kosovo’s own traumatic history of ethnic cleansing, the two leaders emphasized their moral and political responsibility in standing against genocide.

“In Kosovo, we know too well what it means to be the target of ethnic cleansing, violence, and the denial of existence. For us, Srebrenica is not just history—it is a moral, political, and human obligation. It is a test of Europe’s conscience,” Gërvalla added.

Both leaders called for international recognition of the genocide, justice for the victims through accountability, and long-term commitment to education so future generations will never forget.

“Srebrenica is a dividing line between civilization and its denial,” concluded Minister Gërvalla. “Those who refuse to condemn genocide today are the same who would remain silent in the face of it tomorrow. We must never forget the victims.”
