The leader of Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, stated from Gjakova that it would be more beneficial for the Republic of Kosovo to elect Glauk Konjufca as Prime Minister rather than heading straight into new elections.

Kurti said that the opposition has two options – either support a “Kurti 2.5 government until elections in December” or a “Konjufca 1 government until April.”

“Since I did not receive the 61 necessary votes, we immediately proposed Glauk Konjufca as the new mandate holder. The opposition has the choice – elections in December or April. Both are acceptable to us, but it is better to have a government that approves the 2026 budget,” Kurti said in an interview with TV Syri in Gjakova.

He emphasized that a short-term government until April would allow the country to pass the 2026 budget for RTK, Prishtina, Gjilan, and Zubin Potok, avoiding institutional paralysis.

Kurti accused opposition parties (PDK, LDK, AAK, and NISMA) of political obstruction and refusal, saying that Vetëvendosje has shown generosity by proposing Konjufca.

“We have 48 MPs—more than PDK and LDK combined. We have made compromises ourselves—from Albulena Haxhiu to Dimal Basha, and now from me to Glauk Konjufca. Meanwhile, the opposition remains rigid and irrational,” Kurti added.

According to him, approving the Konjufca government would ensure institutional stability and a smooth transition toward spring elections, while rejecting the proposal would automatically trigger new elections in December.
