Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has criticized the Special Prosecution for failing to initiate investigations and file indictments regarding the disappearance of professor and politician Ukshin Hoti, who has been missing since 1999, reports Rks News.

Hoti was arrested in 1994 for political activities and sentenced to five years in prison. However, one day before completing his sentence, on May 16, 1999, he was released from Dubrava Prison and has not been seen since. According to Kurti, his disappearance constitutes a state crime by Serbia, with responsibility extending to the highest levels of the Serbian government at that time.

The acting Prime Minister emphasized that despite numerous documents and testimonies, no indictments have yet been brought against those responsible. He called on justice institutions to act with moral and constitutional responsibility, demanding justice for Ukshin Hoti and all forcibly disappeared persons.

“The official release document, signed by prison director Aleksandar Rakočević, proves that he was formally released, but in reality, this release was the final act before his disappearance. In prison records, Ukshin Hoti’s name was erased with a pencil, with the note ‘sentence completed.’ Supervisor Branko Komatina removed him from the cell where he was held, while Hoti only carried a bag with personal belongings. Since that day, he has not been seen again,” Kurti said.

“Ukshin Hoti remains and will always be one of the greatest figures in Albanian political history and thought,” Kurti concluded.
