Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has delivered strong criticism of the Constitutional Court, accusing the judges of blocking social measures and showing hypocrisy in their rulings.

In his speech titled “Supporting Ordinary Citizens in a Global Economic Crisis: What the World Can Learn from Kosovo”, Kurti did not hold back against the Court’s decisions.

He condemned the Court’s ruling to strike down the law on price ceilings for basic products such as bread, flour, oil, and hygiene items.

According to him, the Court annulled this measure “under the pretext of violating free market principles,” causing significant harm to the most vulnerable families.

Kurti labeled the Court’s approach as “hypocritical,” drawing a comparison with its ruling on salaries, noting that only months earlier the Court had decided that judges’ and senior public officials’ salaries should not be determined by the market, but rather considered as a matter of rights.

“The Court, which insists so heavily on the free market when it comes to poor families, does not feel the same when it comes to their own high salaries,” Kurti declared.
