Acting Prime Minister and Vetëvendosje MP, Albin Kurti, has blamed the opposition for unjustly obstructing the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly, emphasizing that the issue is not about Albulena Haxhiu’s candidacy for Speaker, but rather the mechanism of the secret vote.
“Albulena Haxhiu is neither the question, nor in question. The answer lies in the secret ballot, which the opposition is unjustifiably blocking — harming the state of Kosovo in the process,” Kurti stated after attending the 16th annual scientific conference “Week of Albanology”.
The 21st attempt to constitute the Assembly was made on Sunday, yet the vote failed once again. Out of 90 MPs present, 53 voted in favor, 1 against, and no abstentions. The session will continue again on Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
Despite mounting pressure, Vetëvendosje (VV) continues to insist on Albulena Haxhiu as their sole candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, **opposition parties PDK and AAK have signaled openness to support a VV candidate—**but only if a different name is proposed.
The current deadlock centers not only on party rivalry but also raises concerns about parliamentary procedure, transparency, and institutional stability in Kosovo. The continued inability to establish leadership prevents the formation of a new government and puts political progress at risk.
