Prime Minister Albin Kurti today called for a thorough investigation into the death of 27-year-old Agon Zejnullahu in Lipjan. Speaking at the start of the government meeting, Kurti expressed his condolences to the Zejnullahu family and addressed the public’s concerns, Ekonomia Online reports.
“First, I want to express my sincerest condolences to the Zejnullahu family for the loss of their loved one. The news of his death has shocked us all,” Kurti stated. “Much has been made public, thanks also to witness recordings.”
Commitment to Justice and Institutional Accountability
Kurti emphasized the need for close cooperation among Kosovo’s institutions—the Police, Police Inspectorate, and Prosecution—to fully understand the events that transpired. He confirmed that five officials have already been suspended.
“I demand and expect a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served,” Kurti affirmed. “There will be no shelter in institutions for anyone who has exceeded their authority or abused their official duty.”
While stressing the importance of accountability, Kurti also cautioned against broad generalizations. “The tendency to launch a campaign against the Police is not useful. Calls for justice are right and must be heard,” he concluded.
