Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke about the ongoing political blockade in the country, stating that the public must wait a few more days for the Constitutional Court’s ruling on how to proceed.
During a visit to the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK), Kurti declared that he does not know what the court’s decision or solution will be, but affirmed that they will “respect the judgment of the Constitutional Court.”
“I think we have to wait just a few more days; they will notify us about what they think should happen after 30 days. I don’t know what the solution will be, but we have said that we respect the judgment of the Constitutional Court,” Kurti said.
Political Context and Court Cases
Kurti’s comments come one day after President Vjosa Osmani withdrew her request to the Constitutional Court, in which she had sought clarification on the legal consequences if the Assembly was not constituted by the July 26 deadline. Osmani’s reason for the withdrawal was the court’s appointment of Serbian judge Radomir Laban as the reporting judge on her request. According to Osmani, Laban’s assignment was “not only concerning but also dangerous.”
The Constitutional Court is currently reviewing separate requests from the PDK and LDK parties. The LDK, in its request, is seeking a decision that would allow the parliamentary majority to exercise its right to nominate a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly and restore institutional normalcy. According to the party’s statement, “the democratic system functions on the basis of a majority and responsibility, not on blockade and lack of political will.”
