17 years! It took a full 17 years to complete the 40-kilometer Prishtinë–Mitrovicë road. The inauguration of the final segment of this road was held today by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, covering a stretch of approximately 10 kilometers.

Extended over many years and under continuous construction, this road has been considered ‘problematic’ during its development, with several inaugurations along the way. Kurti himself had conducted one such ceremony two years ago.

That inauguration took place in December 2024 for the Stanovc–Vushtrri entrance segment, at which time the Prime Minister was accompanied by the then Minister of Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu.

At the time, Aliu had stated that the road would be completed within a year, but in reality, it turned out differently.

Besides this road, other projects are in a similar ‘blockade’ situation, such as Klinë–Gjakovë and Prishtinë–Gjilan.

Regarding the segment inaugurated today, Kurti said that the project was built to high standards.

“The project has been constructed with high and modern standards, and as such provides safety, development, and opportunities for all residents of the area, including the capital Prishtinë, and the municipalities of Vushtrri and Mitrovicë. The works on this project were completed within the full two-year timeframe, demonstrating high work dynamics, efficiency in execution, and maximum quality in implementation. Let us not forget that this project started back in 2009, but was never completed because it was initially launched in the wrong way. This investment of 25 million euros, covering 9.6 kilometers, was realized through the cooperation of our institutions with the Saudi Fund for Development and the OPEC Fund for International Development, for which I sincerely thank them for their support and valuable contribution,” he stated.
